Our Native people who are known as Mehtar , Bhangi ,Dombari , Harijan , Hela etc and now Walmiki and doing work as Scavenger are in fact Native Royal people . The word Mehtar which originated in Persian language is having this meaning . In north India , this word is used as derogatory now for so called untouchables .
Videshi Brahmins called these same people as Bhangi . It means divided, lost , defeated , broken . Bhang means

The same Mehtar community had given numerous warriors like Madari Mehtar , Lal Baba , Matadin Bhangi and Native Warriors of Bhima - Koregaon who with mere strength of 500 solders defeated Videshi Brahmin Nalayak Peshwa 's 50000 solders in a single day pulling down Peshwa from Pune to dust in 1818 .
